The Military Psychological and Sociological Service (usually abbreviated to MPSD) is one of the service subjects of the Royal Netherlands Army.
Psychologists and sociologists have been members of the armed forces since the 1920s. They were initially used primarily for selection, later also for advice, education and training, research and (psychotherapeutic) treatments. In the 1970s their number increased to a few dozen. This led in 1973 to the creation of a special service section: the MPSD. The members of this department are all officers of the Royal Netherlands Army and graduated (drs. Or now masters) in psychology, sociology or educational sciences.
