This beret is a french model marked "Plein Ciel"
I have not found any information on the manufacturer, these berets can be bougth online like here:
https://amerikaantje.be/fr/produit/beret-bw-commando/ and
https://www.asmc.com/german-bw-commando-beret-plein-ciel-black and
https://www.militarysurplus.eu/product-eng-4388-GERMAN-Black-PLEIN-CIEL-COMMANDO-BERET.html
This is the correspondence between me and the man I got this beret from.
Dear Bertie, I obtained the berets myself from two colleagues (DOVO and FAU)
at work (I am an officer at the Ministry of Defense and I work at the Defense staff in Evere).
With kind regards, D
Dear Bertie, it is indeed the case that there are still "ABL berets" available and in circulation
(like for example van Pelsmaekers, but it has since stopped in Berchem),
but more and more soldiers buy the French berets as they are much smaller and therefore more elegant to wear.
The soldiers you saw in Zaventem belong to the ISTAR Bn (which is an amalgamation of the former 1JP =? UTF-8? Q?, _ 2JP_en_4ChCh, _dus_de_vroegere_Recce_ee nhede? = N).
I myself come from 1JP. Thus, the "3rd Hunter on Horseback" does not exist under that name.
I can sometimes have it checked by us on the Staff if there is an overview of all current issues
still existing units.
After all, many changes have taken place in recent years.
Do you also collect berets from strange armies? I have a beret from Ukraine and one from the Bundeswehr.
In addition, I still have a large amount of Belgian uniforms and equipment that can be removed.
I have completely focused on the Allied side of WWII.
Let us know if you would be interested in something.
With kind regards, D
