South African liners feature an oval felt top pad, there where two colors possible, this liner has a brown felt top pad. This liner is also made by Jager-Rand in 1942. The size of this liner is 6 7/8
This helmet came with a leather chinstrap. I found information that after the war many South African helmets ended up in Greece, I think it is possible this helmet was used by Greece and the leather chinstrap is Greece.
Most of the green paint on this helmet is gone and the original sand color can be seen again.
The liner of this helmet is English it shows CCL 11 1945. CCL = Charles Collett Ltd.
At a certain moment South Africa started to use English liners. Greece also manufactured their own liners but I do not have one yet in my collection.
The three presented South African helmets come from one lot. They were very dirty. I cleaned them with lukewarm water and dishwashing product after removing the liners. The liners are only wiped clean with a dry cloth.
Belgian Model 51 Liner used by UN Additional picures at part 2
I found out this liner that I got together with The Netherlands M53 UN is not painted in the Belgian UN colors but in Belgian Air Force blue by comparing the colors pleas sea: Belgian M51 helmet UN liner 2
The Netherlands M53 troepenhelm LS28-63B This helmet cold have been used by The Netherlands Airforce based on the grey liner that came with it. Inside the helmet there is a stamp showinh an "U" within a box. Is there some one who can tell me what this U means? The heat stamp within the shell is LS28-63B, again a Linnemann-Schnetzer, I think this helmet is made in the year 1963. The liner pictures are at part 2
French Helmet "Casque Troupes Toutes Armes Modèle 51 OTAN" Japy 1953
French Helmet "Casque Troupes Toutes Armes Modèle 51 OTAN" or "TTA 51" After world war 2 the French came up with their own US M1 clone. It looks a lot like the US M1 but the shape of the shell is different. The US M1 liner will not fit into the TTA 51. This TTA 51 is a type 2, it has swivel bails to hold the chin strap. The type 1 has fixed bails like the first US M1 helmets. My helmet is made in 1953 by Japy For pictures of the liner that came with this helmet see: part 2
This is a French Helmet "Sous Casque radio char M65" Sous Casque means under helmet or liner. and could be used as a liner for the previous presented Model 51 TTA or the Model 56 TAP. Radio Char means tank radio, this helmet was designed so it could be used together with a tank communication system. This helmet is made by Galland in 1966. The R stamped in the mitlle tells us it is made of Rilsan. The interior of this helmet is made just like the US M1 liner. I got this cap at the Belgian Air Force Days at Kleine Brogel Air Base September 2018, it was a give away presented by Lockheed. At that moment Belgium had not yet made the decision to buy the F35. https://www.belgianairforcedays.be/index.php/nl-be/
